Automatically Generate a Table of Contents in a WordPress page
See above for what this looks like in practice
Make longer pages easier to navigate with this free WordPress plugin. Install the plugin and then simply add the shortcode to any page where you want to include a table of contents. The plugin automatically produces the table of contents based on the Heading 2 sections in the page, allowing visitors to jump straight to the section they need. It’s useful for guides, FAQs, resource pages and articles covering several topics.
The plugin follows the order of your headings, preserves existing heading anchors and creates any missing ones. You can customise the list’s title or hide it altogether. There are no settings to configure, accounts to create or subscriptions to pay.
I actually developed this plugin for this page – I intend on open-sourcing and adding the rest of my WordPress plugins here when I get time.
Installation
- Download the plugin ZIP file and leave it zipped.
- In WordPress, go to Plugins → Add New Plugin → Upload Plugin.
- Select the ZIP, click Install Now, then Activate Plugin.
How to use it
- Edit the page or post where you want a contents list.

- Enter
. - Save or update the page, then view the public page to see the list.

Changing the title
The default title is On this page. To use your own title:
To display the list without a visible title:
Useful things to know
- Only H2 headings are listed. Making text bold or increasing its size does not make it a heading.
- The list includes headings before and after the shortcode within the same content area.
- If there are no matching headings, the contents list stays hidden.
- JavaScript must be enabled. The list is generated when the page loads.
- The list may not appear inside the editor, so check the public page.
- No page content is permanently changed, and there is no usage tracking.
- If you deactivate the plugin, remove the shortcode from your pages.

DNS lookup
This simple DNS lookup tool lets you enter a domain name and check the records that connect it to its website, email and other services. It’s useful for investigating website or email problems, checking settings before moving hosting, or seeing how a domain is configured—all through a straightforward webpage.
Floor planner – enhanced floor plans
Floor-planner.co.uk makes it easy to turn a basic floor plan into an enhanced plan showing fire safety equipment, escape routes, room details and other useful information. Upload an existing plan, add symbols and notes, then download it as a PDF or image. You can also save your plans online to update later. It’s designed for landlords, letting agents, property managers and anyone preparing plans for HMO licence applications or property documentation, helping you create clear, practical plans without specialist drawing software.
Place Pass – create memorable passwords based on a place
PlacePass.me helps you create memorable passwords using a place that means something to you. It combines a location’s What3Words address with a PIN and extra characters, giving you a personal way to generate a password rather than trying to remember a random string of letters and numbers. It could be useful for anyone who finds conventional passwords difficult to remember and likes the idea of using a familiar location as a memory aid.
Create a QR code then update its destination at any time
The PlacePass QR code generator lets you create a QR code and update its destination later using a password. Unlike a fixed QR code, you can change where it takes people without replacing the code itself—particularly useful once it’s printed on flyers, business cards, menus or signs. It’s a practical tool for businesses, event organisers and anyone who wants to keep their printed materials useful as links, offers or information change.
Structured Prompt Building Wizard
The Structured Prompt Building Wizard helps you turn an idea into clear instructions for AI tools such as ChatGPT. Its simple form guides you through what you want the AI to do, the background information it needs, any rules to follow and how the answer should look. You can skip sections that aren’t relevant, then generate and copy your finished prompt. It’s useful for anyone who wants more consistent, relevant responses from AI but isn’t sure what to include or where to start—no technical knowledge required.
Case Study Generator for WordPress (plugin)
How could we call ourselves a marketing agency without a focus on marketing? This plugin allows you to turn notes into a structured case study. Follow the wizard to go through the background, challenge, solution and results to automatically create a draft blog post for you to review and publish.
It works across a wide range of industries. You can use your own headings, add extra sections and leave out anything that does not apply. No account, subscription or API key is required. This plugin has been tested to WP version 7.1.3 and passes all the WordPress Plugin Check tests (i.e. Categories, Types, and AI Settings)
Installation
- Download the plugin ZIP file. Leave it zipped.
- In your WordPress dashboard, go to Plugins → Add New Plugin → Upload Plugin.
- Select the ZIP file and click Install Now.
- Click Activate Plugin.
- Go to Tools → Case Study Generator.
Installing the plugin requires administrator access or equivalent permissions. Once installed, users with permission to edit posts can use the wizard.
Creating your first case study
1. Project overview
Enter a title and a short summary. You can also add the client or project name, industry, location, timeframe and background. If the client needs to remain anonymous, use a general description instead.
The summary also becomes the WordPress post excerpt.
2. Challenge and delivery
Explain the problem or opportunity, what you wanted to achieve and how you approached it. Add objectives and work delivered as lists, with one item per line.
3. Results and evidence
Describe what changed. Include measurable results where available, or explain the practical benefits in words. You can also add measurement notes, an approved testimonial and lessons learned.
4. Extras and links
Add up to three additional sections for anything specific to your project, such as technical details, sustainability or community impact.
You can include a link to the project, a video or a virtual tour, plus your own call to action and destination link.
5. Post settings
Choose a category and optionally add:
- Tags: separate these with commas.
- Post URL slug: leave blank to let WordPress generate it from the title.
- Search description: saved for use with Yoast SEO or Rank Math.
- Featured image: choose an image from your WordPress Media Library.
Expand Customise section headings to change the default headings. Leaving a heading blank keeps its content but removes that heading.
Previewing and publishing
Click Preview case study to check the assembled content. Your entries remain in the form so you can make changes.
When you are happy, click Create draft and open editor. This creates a new draft and opens the standard WordPress editor. You can then edit the wording, rearrange sections, add images or embeds, and publish or submit for review.
The plugin does not publish automatically.
Tips for using the wizard
- Only a title and at least one narrative or list field are required. Empty sections are omitted.
- The wizard organises your wording; it does not write or rewrite your answers. Use complete sentences where appropriate.
- Use Next and Back to move between steps, or Show all sections to display the whole form.
- Your theme controls the finished post’s appearance. The preview shows the content without your theme layout or featured image.
- Project, video and virtual-tour URLs become clickable links. To display embedded content, add the appropriate block in the WordPress editor.
- A compatible active SEO plugin is needed to output the optional search description.
Saving and editing
The wizard does not save automatically. Keep the page open until you create a draft.
After creating the draft, make further changes through Posts → All Posts. The wizard does not reopen existing case studies; completing it again creates another draft.
Your generated posts remain on your website if you deactivate or remove the plugin.

Automatic File List for WordPress (plugin)
This plugin will automatically display a list of links to files or downloads within a specified folder on your website without needing to add each link by hand. This free WordPress plugin from Seven Creative turns files in your uploads directory into a linked list, table or image grid. I wanted to display a list of available PDF documents (with direct links) without having to manually produce the list or update it everytime something changed
You can filter by file type, sort by filename, date or size, and choose how much information to display. Files do not need to be imported into the WordPress Media Library. There are no settings screens, subscriptions or accounts to configure.
Installation
- Download the plugin ZIP file and leave it zipped.
- In WordPress, go to Plugins → Add New Plugin → Upload Plugin.
- Select the ZIP, click Install Now, then Activate Plugin.
Preparing your files
Decide which folder you want to use inside your WordPress uploads directory or create a new one, for example:
wp-content/uploads/downloads/
Upload the files you want to share into that folder. The plugin reads the folder but does not upload, move, edit or delete files.
This plugin is for public downloads. It does not provide password protection or members-only access. Protecting the page does not, by itself, protect the files linked from it.
Adding a file list
- Edit the page or post where you want the list.
- Add a Shortcode block.
- Enter:
[sevencreative_files folder="downloads"]
- Save or update the page, then view it publicly.
In the Classic Editor, enter the shortcode on its own line. In a page builder, use a shortcode widget.
Folder paths are always relative to your WordPress uploads directory. For example:
folder="downloads"lists files inwp-content/uploads/downloads/.folder="reports/annual"lists files inwp-content/uploads/reports/annual/.folder="2026/10"lists files in that monthly uploads folder.
Do not enter a full website URL, an absolute server path or ../ segments.
Choosing a layout
A simple linked list:
[sevencreative_files folder="downloads"]
A table of PDFs, including file sizes and modified dates:
[sevencreative_files folder="downloads" types="pdf" format="table" show_date="true"]
A grid of linked images:
[sevencreative_files folder="gallery" format="images" show_size="false" prettyname="true"]
The image layout automatically excludes non-image formats. Use suitably sized images, as the plugin does not generate smaller thumbnails.
Filtering and sorting
Use types to choose file extensions, separated by commas:
[sevencreative_files folder="downloads" types="pdf,docx,xlsx"]
To show the ten most recently modified PDFs:
[sevencreative_files folder="reports" types="pdf" orderby="date" order="desc" limit="10"]
You can sort by:
name— filename.date— the file’s modification date.size— file size.
Use order="asc" for ascending order or order="desc" for descending order. The default is ascending filename order.
To include filenames containing “annual”, while excluding those containing “draft” or “internal”:
[sevencreative_files folder="reports" contains="annual" exclude="draft,internal"]
These filters are case-insensitive and match the original filenames.
Customising the display
Add any of these options to your shortcode:
| Option | What it does |
|---|---|
title="Useful downloads" | Adds a title above the list. |
prettyname="true" | Replaces underscores and hyphens with spaces and hides the extension. |
removeextension="true" | Hides only the file extension. |
show_size="false" | Hides file sizes. |
show_date="true" | Shows modified dates using your WordPress date settings. |
target="_blank" | Opens file links in a new tab. |
limit="50" | Displays up to 50 matching files. |
empty_text="No downloads yet." | Changes the message shown when no files match. |
empty_text="" | Hides the empty-list message. |
For example:
[sevencreative_files folder="downloads" types="pdf" title="Useful downloads" prettyname="true" show_size="false"]
Display options change the labels on your page, not the actual filenames.
Keeping the list updated
Add or remove files in the selected folder and the list reflects those changes when the page is regenerated. If your website uses page caching or a CDN, clear its cache to show the updated list immediately.
Useful things to know
- The plugin lists one folder at a time. It does not scan subfolders automatically.
- Common document, archive, image, audio and video formats are supported. The full extension list is included in the readme.
- Hidden files, symbolic links, script files and unsupported extensions are excluded.
- The default display limit is 100 files, with a maximum of 1,000. There is no pagination.
- Folders containing more than 10,000 entries are rejected. Split larger collections into smaller folders.
- Files must exist locally on your web server. The plugin cannot list remote-only cloud storage.
- Links open or download files according to your browser and server settings.
- No JavaScript is required, and there is no usage tracking or reporting.
Replacing another file-list plugin
Install Seven Creative File List, then update your pages to use the new [sevencreative_files] shortcode and the options described above. Existing shortcodes are not converted automatically.
Check each updated page before deactivating the previous plugin. Arbitrary server folders, regex filters and custom HTML templates are not supported; use the provided layouts and filename filters instead.
Removing the plugin
Deactivating or deleting the plugin leaves your files untouched. Remove its shortcodes from your pages to prevent them appearing as plain text.
